Manhattan Federal Prosecutors Saw Bounce-Back Year for Criminal Trials in 2017
The federal prosecutor's office saw a 61 percent increase in trials from the previous year, even as 2016 was considered an outlier by observers.

For the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, 2017 was a bounce-back year for criminal trials.
According to a spokeswoman for the office, federal prosecutors saw a 61 percent increase in criminal trials in 2017, versus the year before. While only 49 trials were commenced in 2016, prosecutors executed 79 this past year, according to the office.
In a statement provided to the New York Law Journal, acting U.S. Attorney Joon Kim called 2017 “an incredibly busy and productive year.”
