ALBANY — State courts in Putnam County will remain closed Thursday due to power outages related to yesterday's storm, the state's Unified Court System announced.

More than 18 inches of snow was reported in parts of Putnam County due to Wednesday's nor'easter, according to the National Weather Service. Late Tuesday, the service issued winter storm watches and warnings for the majority of the state with snowfall rates up to 2 inches per hour, forcing many courthouses around New York to close.

In neighboring Dutchess and Ulster counties, state courts were scheduled to open at 10 a.m. All courthouses in the Eastern District of New York and the Southern District of New York, which closed on Wednesday, were expected to be open Thursday for normal operations.
