CUNY Law hosted a career retrospective of Judge Ronald Ellis, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of New York, on April 11 at CUNY School of Law. The event brought together those whom Judge Ellis inspired, mentored, and empowered throughout his career at both the Southern District and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Guests included current and former colleagues, his clerks, judicial interns, the CUNY Law community, and the Ellis family.

Pictured, from left, are panelists James Francis, a retired Southern District judge; Ellis; Marianne Engelman Lado, senior staff attorney at Earthjustice; Carmelyn Malalis, commissioner of the New York City Commission on Human Rights; Court of Appeals Justice Jenny Rivera; and Ted Shaw, Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Civil Rights at the University of North Carolina School of Law.
