Assemblyman Nick Perry, D-Brooklyn, a backer of the proposal, said the state Assembly will take up the bill either Monday or Tuesday.

Perry said he believes supporters of the measure have the votes in the Assembly after members from both parties in the Senate approved the bill with 44 votes. It was a rare moment in the chamber where the bill had mostly bipartisan support but also a small number of opponents from both parties.
