Those two days give campaigns the opportunity to appeal a decision made by an appellate court, which will hear motions the previous week.

The Court of Appeals may hear motions in races ranging from state Assembly districts to the state attorney general’s and governor’s offices, if there are challenges. The number of motions varies by year, though more could be expected this year with several primaries for state offices heating up.

The campaign for state attorney general could also see its day in front of the high court with three prominent Democrats seeking the ballot line. New York City Public Advocate Letitia James, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, Fordham law professor Zephyr Teachout and former gubernatorial aide Leecia Eve are all seeking the Democratic line.
