Four years after the death of Eric Garner at the hands of members of the New York City Police Department, internal disciplinary proceedings against two officers involved in the incident are set to begin immediately, an NYPD spokesman confirmed.

The move is an acceleration of the NYPD’s declaration earlier this week that it intended to take action against the officers by month’s end if the U.S. Department of Justice did not.
