U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg action figure.

In the latest example of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's status as a pop-culture superstar, a Brooklyn company is producing a RBG action figure after a crowdfunding campaign that it said wildly surpassed its expectations.

FCTRY, the maker of the new RBG action figure, was looking to raise just $15,000 for the first batch of RBG figures, yet its crowdfunding campaign, buoyed by the popularity of Ginsburg, attracted $613,700 from nearly 15,700 people who wanted to be among the first to nab the $19.99 doll. Zoe Cronin, marketing coordinator at FCTRY, said it was the most successful crowdfunding campaign in the company's history.

With 50,000 figures in production, the action figures are ready to ship in October, with features that include the justice's wire-rimmed glasses, “to see through patriarchal bullsh*t,” her signature jabot and righteous robe, “the next best thing to a cape,” and a hardwood gavel, “to bring order to your life,” said the company's Kickstarter campaign.

Ginsburg, who was introduced to the action figure in June at a meet-and-greet event in New York, promised to put the doll on her mantel, Cronin said. U.S. Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg didn't return an email seeking comment.

The RBG action figure joins other Ginsburg dolls—hand-knitted versions cost more than $90 on Etsy, and legal publication Green Bag has created bobblehead RBG's, not for sale, but as subscription gifts for readers. But FCTRY's RBG action figure might be the first mass-produced, affordable Ginsburg doll that's for sale on the market. There are plenty of other products that celebrate the “Notorious RBG,” like T-shirts, mugs and coloring books. Not to mention media of all kinds—blogs, books, “Saturday Night Live” skits, the RBG documentary that came out in May and a movie, “On the Basis of Sex,” set for release this December.

“I think RBG has really become a viral figure,” Cronin said.
