Practice Profile: White collar and securities litigation partner Rebecca Kahan Waldman has worked at the sharp end of some of Dechert's highest-profile litigations. She helped guide The Bank of New York Mellon through a number of multibillion-dollar matters, including an US$8.5 billion settlement with Bank of America, one of the largest private settlements in U.S. history, and a US$8.7 billion Allowed Claim settlement relating to the bankruptcy of Residential Capital. She also played a leading role in the Dechert team that shepherded Japan's Takata Corporation through congressional, regulatory, federal, state and international challenges surrounding the largest automotive recall in history.

Leadership, Pro Bono and Civic Work: As part of Dechert's efforts to challenge discriminatory voting laws in a number of states, she recently appeared alongside the American Civil Liberties Union in Fish v. Kobach, seeking a court order requiring Kansas to permanently register thousands of citizens who were denied the right to vote by a highly restrictive Kansas law promoted by Kris Kobach, the Secretary of State for Kansas. The U.S. District Court struck down the law, finding that it violated the National Voter Registration Act and the U.S. Constitution. Waldman has also secured immigration relief for the families of a number of victims of domestic abuse as part of an active pro bono practice.
