Practice Profile: Tanisha James advises some of the world's biggest companies and investors on complex domestic and international mergers, acquisitions, strategic investments, joint ventures and government and private antitrust investigations. Tanisha has worked on the antitrust aspects of several recent and significant deals, including Meredith Corporation's acquisition of Time, Plated's sale to Albertsons, Shipt's sale to Target, Horizon Pharma's agreement to acquire River Vision and Cell Design Labs' sale to Gilead Sciences.

Leadership, Pro Bono and Civic Work: Last year, Tanisha led a Cooley team in updating and expanding a manual that helps individuals at risk of deportation to protect their financial assets and make child custody arrangements. Tanisha received Cooley's New York Pro Bono Achievement Award for her leadership on the project. She sits on the New York office Pro Bono Committee and chairs the firm's African American Attorney Affinity Group.

She has also successfully represented other pro bono clients seeking asylum, including a lesbian woman and her partner fleeing discrimination and violence in Ukraine; an El Salvadoran woman fleeing persecution by a high-ranking government official; and an El Salvadoran transgender individual fleeing gang persecution by winning a bench trial by rare written decision.

In her Harlem community, Tanisha is a member of the Apollo Young Patrons, who are the next generation of Apollo leaders committed to arts, networking and professional development.
