E. Leo Milonas will chair New York's Commission on Judicial Nomination.

Milonas, a former chief administrative judge, served as a judge for the Appellate Division, First Department. He is a litigation partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and a former president of the New York City Bar Association.

Judith Kaye chaired the commission until her death in 2016. Greenberg Traurig shareholder Alan Mansfield has led the commission as interim chairman since.

Under the state's constitution, the commission gives the governor recommendations to fill vacancies on the Court of Appeals.

“It is an extraordinary privilege and honor to serve as chair of this distinguished and important commission,” Milonas said in a statement.

He is the sixth chairman in the commission's history.
