President Donald Trump has renominated a collection of judges and lawyers to fill seven federal district judge positions across New York State, according to a White House news release Monday.

The news release also listed Trump's renominations for five other federal district judge posts in several other areas of the country.

Of the seven New York federal judgeships, four renominations were for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York; two were for the Southern District of New York, and one was for the Western District of New York.

In the Eastern District, Trump renominated Gary Brown to become a federal judge. Currently Brown is a U.S. magistrate judge from the Eastern District, a position he has been in since 2011.

Brown is an adjunct professor at St. John's University School of Law and in 2014 was selected by the board of judges to serve on the committee of magistrate judges appointed to manage more than 1,400 Hurricane Sandy cases filed in the Eastern District.

Also renominated for the Eastern District federal judgeship was Diane Gujarati, who serves as deputy chief of the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. Gujarati has served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the past 19 years and previously worked as a litigation associate in the New York City office of Davis Polk & Wardwell, the news release noted.

Eric Komitee was also renominated for a judge position in the Eastern District. He is the general counsel of Viking Global Investors in New York. He previously served for eight years as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, where he eventually became chief of the Business and Securities Fraud Section.

Also in the Eastern District, Rachel Kovner was renominated. She is an assistant to the solicitor general in the Solicitor General's Office within the Department of Justice, where she has represented the United States in litigation before the Supreme Court since 2013. She served for four years as an assistant United States attorney for the Southern District of New York.

In the Southern District, Trump renominated Lewis Liman to a district judge position. He is a partner in the New York City office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, and before joining the Cleary firm, he was a partner at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering. He served for five years as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he became deputy chief of appeals.

Mary Kay Vyskocil was also renominated to the Southern District. She is a U.S. bankruptcy judge for the Southern District of New York, where she has served since 2016. She practiced general commercial litigation for almost 33 years at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, the news release stated.

In the Western District, Trump renominated John Sinatra to a district judge post. He is a partner in the Buffalo firm Hodgson Russ. Before joining that law firm, he worked as senior counsel in the Department of Commerce and as an associate in the commercial litigation practice group at the law firm Jones Day.
