Susan Shin, formerly a partner at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer, has joined Weil, Gotshal & Manges' complex commercial litigation practice.
Shin will join Weil's New York office as a partner, the firm said, practicing in the firm's global litigation department as a first-chair trial lawyer. In a statement, she cited her new firm's “trial-ready approach.”
“I look forward to working with the firm's many talented lawyers around the world to assist clients in obtaining the best results in high-stakes and complex matters,” she said.
In the release, Weil executive partner Barry Wolf complimented her trial experience and track record of success.
“Susan is a seasoned trial attorney and commercial litigator, making her a perfect fit for our complex commercial litigation practice, which is known for its trial prowess,” he said. “We are excited to welcome Susan to Weil.”
Prior to joining Weil, Shin was in Arnold & Porter's New York office for more than 15 years and became a partner in 2011. She was elected to the firm's policy committee in 2014, filling a seat on the firmwide governing body reserved for younger partners. She is a past president of the Asian American Bar Association of New York.
Among other notable cases, she was lead trial counsel for Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, a New York City teaching hospital, in an employment discrimination lawsuit in the Eastern District of New York, where she obtained a full defense jury verdict. She has also represented Barnes & Noble and Proctor & Gamble, and has defended matters ranging from consumer class actions to intellectual property disputes to investment arbitrations.
Shin maintains an active pro bono practice representing New York City charter schools. In 2018 she received the Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award from the New York City Bar Association.
Before joining Arnold & Porter, Shin clerked for Raymond Dearie, the chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and was an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell.
