Jeffrey Epstein’s death Aug. 10 by apparent suicide in his Manhattan jail cell may have ended the criminal case against the disgraced 66-year-old financier, who had been accused of trafficking women and underage girls for sex, but a federal investigation into the conduct of his associates remains ongoing.

U.S. Attorney General William Barr on Monday said he was “appalled” by Epstein’s death in a special housing unit at Metropolitan Correctional Center over the weekend.

He also warned that a criminal case would proceed against anyone who may have enabled his behavior. “Let me assure you that this case will continue on against anyone who was complicit with Epstein,” he said during remarks in New Orleans. “Any co-conspirators should not rest easy. The victims deserve justice, and we will ensure they get it.”
