The man found guilty in June of sex trafficking, racketeering and other offenses in connection with the so-called cult NXIVM will not be sentenced until 2020, U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis of the Eastern District of New York said in court Friday.

Keith Raniere will appear in court at least one more time before his sentencing as the court works out a potential conflict of interest involving one of his defense lawyers, Teny Geragos of Brafman & Associates.

Sometime after the end of Raniere's trial, Geragos applied for an assistant U.S. attorney job in the Eastern District of New York, where she would be working alongside the lawyers who prosecuted Raniere, Assistant U.S. Attorney Tanya Hajjar said in court Friday.

Garaufis said he wants to learn more about Geragos' application, including the date and whether she's also applying to be a prosecutor in other districts.

Raniere's Curcio counsel, Avraham Moskowitz of Moskowitz & Book, said he needs more time to consider the issue and talk it over with Raniere, who wore an olive jumpsuit and only answered brief questions from the judge.

Garaufis scheduled the Curcio hearing for Oct. 31 and said Geragos' application materials can be filed under seal. Raniere's presentencing report will not be ready until late November, Garaufis said, so he expects the sentencing will be sometime after New Year's.
