Practice Profile: Jonah Knobler is a partner in Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler's litigation department in New York City. His practice centers on class actions and complex litigation, false-advertising disputes, and food-and-drug law. Mr. Knobler has over a decade of experience representing global and national pharmaceutical, food, beverage, cosmetic, and dietary supplement manufacturers in high-stakes false advertising, consumer protection, civil RICO, and product liability suits.

Leadership, Pro Bono and Civic Work: Mr. Knobler's active pro bono practice currently focuses on LGBTQ+ rights and voting rights.

Mr. Knobler is currently counsel for amicus interACT: Advocates for Intersex Youth in Zzyym v. Pompeo, an appeal in the Tenth Circuit regarding the denial of passports to Americans who identify as intersex, as well as in the three LGBT Title VII cases now before the U.S. Supreme Court. He also filed amicus briefs in Obergefell v. Hodges (involving marriage equality) and Gloucester School Board v. G.G. (involving the rights of transgender students). Recently, he was one of the plaintiffs' counsel in Rucho v. Common Cause, a challenge to North Carolina's gerrymandered congressional map, which succeeded twice at the District Court level but was reversed 5-4 by the U.S. Supreme Court.

What advice would you give to young lawyers?

Read as much stellar legal writing as you can, whether it's immediately relevant to your practice or not. The more great legal writing you read, the more you'll internalize it, and the more clearly you'll think, write, and argue yourself.
