What are some of your proudest recent achievements? I’m always proud of the work that my team does but I have to say that my proudest recent achievement was winning two hugely significant rulings on the same day in February 2018. At nine in the morning, I was told that the Second Circuit had ruled for our client Fox News in a landmark Fair Use case against TVEyes, and at 10:30, I was alerted that the Ninth Circuit had sided with our client Nike on an important copyright infringement case brought by photographer Jacob Rentmeester. It was a very good day for our clients!

What does it mean to be a leader? I think in the law there are two important aspects of successful leadership. The first is to develop thought leadership by staying at the forefront of the law—identifying evolving issues and helping the law progress to that end. Personally, I’ve tried to do my part to help advance and develop fair use law, copyrightabililty, dilution law and the law of survey evidence, among others.
