What are some of your proudest recent achievements? Over the course of 18 months, and on behalf of a long-standing client, leading four different trial teams comprised of very diverse, talented and selfless individuals, and receiving from the International Trade Commission generally favorable results that our client certainly deserved and greatly appreciated.

What does it mean to be a leader? There are many attributes of a fine leader, but to me, I think it's very important to lead by example and with respect, to think ahead, to listen, to enable, to share credit, and to take responsibility if (and inevitably when, at times) things go south.

Name a lawyer or mentor whose leadership inspired you. My dad, who barely graduated high school. Work hard. Lead by example and with respect. Stay grounded, at least because "one day a hero, the next day a bum."

How are the business and profession of law changing, and how should lawyers adapt for the future? In 35 years of practice I've seen and experienced many changes, including law firm mergers and dissolutions, increased competition, adjusting billing rates, aggressive fee arrangements, technological advancements, thoughtful marketing and strategic plans, and flexible work schedules. None, however, in my mind, shakes the profession's fundamental core:  client service—to always do what's in the best interests of the client, to think client first, to be responsive and forthright, and to know its business and anticipate its needs.

What is the best advice for someone considering a career in law, or someone already in the profession who is seeking to make a greater impact? This may sound too simple, but I think it's true: You need passion for what we do—find a niche that fires you and follow it.
