Legal Aid Society Hires Corey Stoughton as Attorney-in-Charge of Criminal Defense Practice Special Litigation Unit
And other announcements of recent hirings and promotions of New York attorneys.

• The Legal Aid Society has hired Corey Stoughton as attorney-in-charge of the criminal defense practice special litigation unit. She joins Legal Aid from Liberty, the leading domestic human rights organization in the United Kingdom where she was director of advocacy. Previous to Liberty, she served as senior counsel to Vanita Gupta, assistant attorney general for civil rights in the U.S. Department of Justice under President Obama.
• Hughes Hubbard & Reed has promoted Alan Kravitz and Dustin Smith to partners. The firm also elevated Amina Hassan to counsel.
• Barclay Damon has named partner Lizz Acee to the firm's management committee as managing director of major markets, overseeing the firm's Boston, New Haven, New York, Newark, and Washington DC offices. She is a member of the firm's commercial litigation and labor & employment practice areas and the Canada-US cross-border team.
• Kramer Levin has named James Moriarty and Ernest Wechsler as co-chairs of the firm's corporate department, succeeding Howard Spilko, who on Jan. 1 became co-managing partner of the firm. Jamie Kocis and Todd Lenson will serve as the department's deputy chairs. The firm as also hired Colin Bumby as a partner in its mergers and acquisitions and private equity practices. He joins from McGuireWoods where he was also a partner.
• Cole Schotz has elevated Jill Richardson and Mark Tsukerman to members of the firm in New York.
• Anthony DeCapua has joined Forchelli Deegan Terrana as partner in the firm's construction and litigation practice. Prior to joining he was of counsel at Ruskin Moscou Faltischek.
• Cullen and Dykman has promoted Elizabeth Murphy and Nicholas Faso to partners. Murphy is part of the firm's banking practice in Garden City. Faso serves in its litigation practice in Albany.
• Hogan Lovells has promoted Ernest Yakob to partner in the firm's intellectual property, media, and technology practice. In addition, John Beck, (business restructuring and insolvency), Erin Howell, (transactional), Thomas Schmidt, (litigation), and Matthew Sullivan, (investigations, white collar and fraud) have been promoted to counsel.
• Schulte Roth & Zabel has added Christopher Bell as a partner in the firm's finance group. He joins from Proskauer Rose, where he was a partner in that firm's corporate department.
• Reed Smith has promoted the following attorneys to partner: Mark Goldstein, Wendy Grasso, Michael Lee, Jeffrey Silberman, Jennifer White and John Algie.
• Seward & Kissel has promoted Kevin Neubauer to partner and Brian Maloney to counsel.
• Zuckerman Spaeder has named Maggie O'Donnell and Adam Abelson as partners.
• Kasowitz Benson Torres has promoted the following attorneys to partner: Brian Choi, Sondra Grigsby, Jennifer McDougall, Ryan Montefusco and Hershy Stern. In addition, the firm as promoted Darwin Huang to special counsel.
• Blank Rome has elevated Rither Alabre, Ryan Casson, Morgan Fraser Mouchette and Lauren Wilgus to partners in New York. John Kiely and Evan Jason Zucker have been promoted to of counsel.
• Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman has promoted Sean Balkin, James Blenk, Richard Capote, Sean O'Brien and Eliza Friedman Shea to senior associates at the firm.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
