"Quando Ce Ne Sono Nove (When There Are Nine): A Night at the Opera with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg" is a humorous tribute to the justice, her life and her love of opera, said U.S. Magistrate Judge Stewart Aaron of the Southern District of New York, who plays roles including Justice William Rehnquist and Chief Judge Merrick Garland of the U.S. Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia in the show.

The city bar's entertainment committee, spearheaded by Nancy Zehner of the legal recruiting shop The Artemis Group, has been preparing for the show for months, with rehearsals taking place three nights a week in the run-up to the big night, said Aaron.

He said they put in "excruciating research" and got support from the team behind the NYU Law Revue, "a talented group of people who have been doing these shows for years." The book and lyrics were written by Amanda Bakale, with Zehner serving as producer, director and musical director.

The case includes lawyers from a variety of backgrounds, including New York assistant attorney general Clement Colucci; solo practitioner D. Mara Lowenstein; Daniel Gsovski, retired from Herzfeld & Rubin; Arent Fox associate Michael McMahan; Blank Rome partner Rich Miller; Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz partner Ronald Minkoff; and Dennis Quinio, Milbank's diversity and inclusion manager.

The show is part of the city bar's traditional "Twelfth Night" musical roast that takes place every other year. In 2017, the honoree was Senior U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff of the Southern District of New York in a show called "MacJed." In 2018, an off-year, former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara took center stage.

In other years, the players have ribbed former New York City Corporation Counsel Peter Zimroth, the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and law enforcement veteran and Debevoise & Plimpton partner Mary Jo White, Aaron said.

The show will take place Feb. 5 at the city bar's building at 42 W. 44th St. in Manhattan, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the show beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $50 to $80; while the event is sold out, there is a wait-list, according to the city bar's website.
