Less than a day after lawyers representing Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center moved to quash a report from a doctor who had inspected the facility, U.S. Magistrate Judge Roanne Mann of the Eastern District of New York denied the motion, finding that the MDC inmates’ lawyers were allowed to file the report even though the doctor had already been deposed.

The report from Homer Venters, a doctor specializing in the provision of medical care in jails and prisons, alleged serious failures in the MDC’s response to the coronavirus, including a lack of symptom screening and tracking, inadequate personal protective equipment and the destruction of medical records.
