In the latest move of leveraged finance lawyers, the co-head of White & Case's leveraged finance practice, Ronald Brody, has joined Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman in New York with two colleagues.
Brody joined on Monday as a partner, and he will serve as the co-leader of Pillsbury's leveraged finance practice. His practice includes a variety of corporate financing matters, with a focus on representing investment banks and issuers in high-yield debt securities offerings.
He was followed by partner Kenneth Suh, who does debt capital markets and finance work representing investment banks and issuers of high-yield debt. Suh joined as senior counsel.
Jin Kim has also joined Pillsbury as special counsel. He represents financial institutions and public and private companies in capital market and lending transactions. Kim joined White & Case with Brody and Suh in 2007, as part of a five-lawyer group from Mayer Brown, but he left White & Case a few years ago, according to a Pillsbury spokesperson.
Mark Lessard, global finance practice leader for Pillsbury, said in a press release that firm has been building its finance and capital markets practice for a while, and adding the three lawyers from White & Case is a "tremendous opportunity" for the firm and its clients.
"Ron, Ken and Jin represent well-known quantities in New York and have sterling reputations among bankers and sponsors in this highly competitive space," Lessard said.
Brody said in the release that he, Suh and Kim worked together as a team for many years, and Pillsbury provides what their clients need and what they need to expand their practice, especially in the current challenging markets.
A representative of White & Case, reached for comment Tuesday, said the firm wishes Brody and Suh well.
In 2018, Pillsbury added two leveraged finance lawyers, Michael Michetti and Joel Simon, from Schulte Roth & Zabel in New York. Later that year, they were joined by Schulte partner Joseph Fastiggi and two others.
In recent weeks, other leveraged finance lawyers in New York have switched firms, including the head of Shearman & Sterling's global leveraged finance group, Joshua Thompson, who moved to Sidley Austin in New York.
