State officials are giving New York’s vast North Country region the OK to open up parts of its economy starting this weekend, a sign that law firms in the rural area could see a quicker return to in-office operations following coronavirus lockdown measures.

The region, which includes Watertown and Plattsburgh, joins three other New York regions that have received the green light after hitting reopening benchmarks outlined by the state. Regions must see a decline in hospitalizations under the standards, and are required to meet metrics on contact tracers and testing capacity, among other benchmarks.
