Law Journal reporter Jason Grant has been catching up with legal recruiter David Lat, whose battle with COVID-19 earlier this year threatened his life. Lat had to spend six days having a ventilator do his breathing for him, and ended up on experimental drug therapies that may have saved him, though it's impossible to say if he would have recovered without them. "It's wild to think about how close I came to dying, to leaving my husband Zach to raise our two-year-old son as a single dad," Lat said in late March as he was preparing to be discharged from NYU Langone Hospital. "I guess my main emotion is gratitude."

We'll be publishing a new story based on the interview with Lat tomorrow. It will discuss his recovery 11 weeks out, along with his surprisingly fast return to a busy and diverse work life.

In the meantime, here's a look back at his experience with the disease.
