A former city employee won a $870,000 settlement from the City of New York on Monday, bringing an end to years of litigation in federal and state court related to the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Richard Natofsky first sued his former employers at the city’s Department of Investigation in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York in 2014, arguing that he had been discriminated against on the basis of his age and a severe hearing disability. He said his managers had failed to accommodate his hearing impairment and retaliated against him when he complained, including by cutting his pay and demoting him.
