Public officials and The Legal Aid Society called for an extension to New York’s blanket eviction moratorium Wednesday, hours before it was set to expire.

While the Tenant Safe Harbor Act is aimed at protecting renters who have “suffered a financial hardship during the COVID-19 covered period,” Legal Aid estimated that more than 200,000 New York City households are not covered by the law’s provisions.
