The lawyer, Andrew J. Spinnell, whose law firm focuses on matrimonial, personal injury, landlord-tenant and commercial litigation, had moved for a lesser sanction of public censure, according to an Appellate Division, First Department panel that handed down Spinnell's suspension.

A veteran attorney who runs a small general practice law firm in Midtown Manhattan has been suspended from practicing law for one year after a state appeals court ruled that he had misappropriated funds in at least 10 client matters and commingled about $100,000 of his own money into an attorney escrow account.
