Author and advice columnist E. Jean Carroll’s defamation lawsuit against President Donald Trump will move forward, New York County Supreme Court Justice Verna Saunders ruled Thursday as she denied the president’s motion for a stay.

Saunders wrote that the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Trump v. Vance, in which a 7-2 majority found that presidents do not have absolute immunity in state court proceedings, applies to the Carroll case.
