A Bronx Supreme Court justice on Tuesday rejected a bail proffer from a man charged with attempted murder, finding that he would lack incentive to return to court after his bail was paid by an unincorporated bail fund.

While charitable bail funds are legal in New York, Justice Lester Adler found that they must be certified by the Superintendent of Insurance and can only post bail totaling $2,000 or less in misdemeanor cases, according to state law.
