The Unified Court System is holding a virtual observation of the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attack which killed Captain William Harry Thompson, Sergeant Thomas Jurgens and Sergeant Mitchel Wallace and honors all those who responded to the attacks with them. The virtual tribute, available on nycourts.gov, includes remarks from Chief Judge Janet DiFiore, Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence K. Marks, and Chief Joseph Baccellieri, as well as a salute by the New York State Courts Ceremonial Unit, the New York State Courts Pipes and Drums and Sergeant Jessica Hernandez, who sang the national anthem. It was taped at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum on August 20. In 2018, the Captain William H. Thompson, Sergeant Thomas Jurgens and Sergeant Mitchell Wallace Court Officers Academy in Brooklyn was dedicated in their honor.
