Aiming to avoid the monthslong delay that played out in the death of Daniel Prude, New York Attorney General Letitia James said her office will proactively release body camera footage in cases where police kill an unarmed person.

Prude died in March following an encounter with Rochester police in which he lost consciousness after authorities pinned him to the pavement. But footage of the incident only became public months later, calling attention to why the video was shielded from the public for so long.
