What are some of the firm’s most satisfying successes of the past year and why? The continued growth of our practice. Ropes & Gray is a destination for this work. From fund formations, to ICOs and enforcement issues, digital currency is an active area. Prominent players realize that our team excels at cutting edge, complex matters—which this discipline demands.

What, if any boundaries stood in the way of the firm’s innovative accomplishment, and how were they surmounted? I wouldn’t describe them as boundaries as much as I would say digital currency is inherently novel, and with any disruptive technology or new asset class, it came with unique and uncharted legal questions. Today the body of law around digital currency, blockchain and fintech continues to emerge. Our team is on the ball to identify evolving issues and to keep tabs on regulatory and enforcement developments, advising clients on questions where the answer is clear based upon precedent, or—in grey areas—helping clients anticipate what’s to come.
