Practice Profile: Melissa Colón-Bosolet represents clients in high-risk business disputes in federal and state courts, arbitrations and internal investigations. Her extensive litigation experience spans all aspects of pleadings, discovery and trial. Melissa's engagements span numerous industries and legal claims, including those involving breach of contract, business torts and securities claims. She also defends and counsels financial institutions, broker-dealers, investment advisers and senior corporate officers in investigations and enforcement matters brought by government agencies and other regulators, including the SEC.

Leadership, Pro Bono and Civic Work: Melissa is a member of the New York City Bar Association and was the youngest chairwoman, as well as the first leader of color, of the Women in the Legal Profession Committee. She also serves on the Cornell Law School Dean's Advisory Council and is vice president of Latino Lawyers of Cornell. She formerly served on the Cornell Alumni Association Executive Board of Directors.

What advice would you give to young lawyers?

Young lawyers need to set goals and be proactive to advance their career. Your colleagues and peers want to help, but you cannot expect mentors or new clients to just come your way—you need to go out there and build your network.
