James McDonald, most recently the enforcement director of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, is joining Sullivan & Cromwell as a partner in New York.

McDonald stepped into the role with the CFTC in April 2017 and stepped down in October. He will join the firm’s litigation practice as a member of the securities and commodities investigations and enforcement practice and the commodities, futures and derivatives group in the beginning of 2021.
