The judges of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District have unanimously appointed acting U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss to continue heading the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office after her term expires on Jan. 15, the court announced on Tuesday.

The appointment, authorized under 28 U.S.C. §546(d), resolves a timing quirk of Strauss’ 210-day temporary term under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, which took effect in June following former U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman’s sudden ouster, and it ensures that Strauss will continue to lead the office until President-elect Joe Biden fills the post with his own candidate early next year.
