Stating there are "limits" to the principle that online platforms "should have a heavy bias in favor of leaving political leaders' speech up," the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University has issued a statement supporting the suspension of President Donald Trump's social media accounts.

"A political leader who uses his account to incite violence is causing harms that can't be countered by speech and can't be undone by a future election," said Jameel Jaffer, the institute's executive director, in a statement in which he appeared to be referring to online speech by Trump that many say helped incite a "mob" of his supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, illegally entering the building and creating violence that led to five deaths.
