Three Cheerleaders Victimized by Deepfake Videos
As deepfake technology becomes more common, inexpensive, and accessible, it can be used by private individuals to bully others or destroy their reputations.

The fact pattern sounds like the opening scene of a teen horror movie. Four girls in quiet Bucks County, Pa. are practicing at a local gym for a high school cheerleading competition. Three of the girls and the gym owners start receiving anonymous messages and videos where the three girls appear nude, drinking alcohol, and vaping. All the videos are fake, placing the faces of the three girls on the bodies of others engaged in these activities. The girls panic, their parents panic and the police are called in. The police engage in cyber-sleuthing and identify the mother of the fourth girl as the source of the deepfake videos and text messages. It is speculated that the mother believed the three girls were her daughter's rivals and the mother wanted them eliminated from the cheerleading competition.
