For the first time in its history, the Commission on Judicial Nomination has put forward a list composed entirely of women candidates to fill a spot on New York’s highest court.

The commission, which was created in the 1970s through an amendment to the state constitution, revealed Thursday their nominees for an upcoming vacancy on the Court of Appeals. That vacancy is tied to the retirement of Judge Leslie Stein, who is expected to step down from the court in early June.
