The LGBTQI+ legal community has been deeply affected by the loss on March 31, 2021 of the first openly gay jurist to serve on the New York Court of Appeals, Judge Paul G. Feinman. Judge Feinman previously served as a president of the LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York (LeGaL) and he was deeply committed to LeGaL’s mission of advancing LGBTQ+ excellence in and through the legal profession.

Through the years, Judge Feinman volunteered his time to mentor LGBTQI+ law students. He participated in LeGaL’s “Hank Henry” Judicial Fellowship program, which placed students with openly LGBTQI+ jurists at all levels of the New York court system, including a week in his chambers.
