Judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Monday questioned the conditions of Ghislaine Maxwell’s detainment at a Brooklyn jail, as the accused accomplice of Jeffrey Epstein tried for the third time to be released ahead of her planned trial later this year on criminal sex-trafficking charges.

Members of the three-judge panel pressed a government attorney on complaints filed by Maxwell’s defense counsel, who have repeatedly said Maxwell has been unnecessarily treated as a suicide risk and subjected to nightly checks with guards shining a light into her cell every 15 minutes while she tried to sleep.
