Georgia Pestana is set to be the first woman and the first Latina to lead the City of New York's Law Department, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday.
Pestana, who has been first assistant corporation counsel since 2015, will take over the corporation counsel position from James Johnson, who has held it since 2019. A total of 79 people have served as the city's corporation counsel to date.
