Attorneys representing the defendants in the state of New York’s multidefendant opioid lawsuit began opening statements Wednesday, urging jurors to consider each company individually as they weigh which entities may have played a role in the state’s opioid crisis.

During the morning session at Touro Law Center on Long Island, where the trial was moved for social distancing purposes, Morgan Lewis & Bockius partner Nancy L. Patterson and Kirkland & Ellis partner Mike Brock each argued that state and federal regulators played a role in expanding the availability of prescription opioids and understating their risks.
