U.S. District Judge Gregory Woods of the Southern District of New York on Tuesday granted a temporary restraining order freezing New York City’s efforts to move disabled and medically vulnerable homeless people out of hotels and into shelters for the next two weeks, unless certain circumstances are met.

Attorneys from Jenner & Block and The Legal Aid Society filed a motion July 8 in which they asked the court to enforce a 2017 settlement stipulation compelling the city’s Department of Homeless Services to provide reasonable accommodations to disabled people in its system, including appropriate notice before changes.
