New York Attorney General Letitia James on Tuesday announced a billion-dollar settlement with three major drug distributors, nearly a month after her office kicked off a civil trial in Suffolk County against the trio and several other large companies linked to the opioid crisis.

The settlement with McKesson Corp., Cardinal Health Inc. and AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp. will bring up to $1.1 billion for opioid treatment, recovery and prevention efforts in New York, James’ office said. The companies “expressly deny” liability or wrongdoing, according to a copy of the settlement agreement obtained by the Law Journal.
