In a three-hour webinar program Tuesday focused on guardianship laws and Britney Spears’ highly controversial case, a veteran guardianship attorney sought to dispel myths about how the system works, while explaining that in Spears’ 13-year-long case there is more to it than the public generally understands.

At the same time, the lawyer, Elizabeth Adinolfi, a Manhattan-based partner at Phillips Nizer, pointed to improvements and potential reforms needed in New York State’s guardianship and conservatorship legal system, from crucial additional funding needed for more court-appointed investigators and lawyers to her suggestion that perhaps guardianship matters and hearings should become more open to the public.
