Nikola Corp. founder Trevor Milton has hired New York attorneys Marc Mukasey, Bradley Bondi and Nola Heller as defense counsel in a criminal case accusing the electric vehicle start-up’s former chair of lying about the company’s technology in order to boost stock sales.

Milton, who surrendered to authorities Thursday morning, pleaded not guilty in Manhattan federal court to two counts of securities fraud and one count of wire fraud. He was released Thursday afternoon on a $100 million bond, secured by two multi-million properties in his home state of Utah.
