The Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan will shut down in the coming months, with all its inmates transferred to other facilities, officials confirmed Thursday.

“In an effort to address the issues at MCC NY as quickly and efficiently as possible, the Department has decided to close the MCC, at least temporarily, until those issues have been resolved,” the Department of Justice said in a statement. The New York Daily News was first to report the news of the shutdown Thursday.
