Zachary Carter, New York City’s corporation counsel for six years under Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Eastern District’s top federal prosecutor before that, has been voted in as chair of the Legal Aid Society’s board of directors as the organization begins the process of finding a new CEO.

Carter succeeds Richard Davis, who has resigned as chair of Legal Aid’s board of directors for 11 years. And he’s taking the reins as the organization gets to work to find a successor for CEO and attorney-in-chief Janet Sabel, who is officially stepping down from her post next spring.
