What are some of the department's most satisfying successes of the past year and why? We are extraordinarily proud of our central role in designing and implementing the Epstein Victims' Compensation Program (EVCP), which has helped scores of victims of Jeffrey Epstein's sexual abuse obtain compensation and some measure of closure for the harm they suffered. (The EVCP's work continues, with awards of over $110 million being paid to date.) As described above, Hughes Hubbard had to overcome prolonged legal opposition from the U.S.V.I. Attorney General—who is pursuing her own civil lawsuit against the Epstein Estate—to both win the U.S.V.I. Superior Court's approval of the EVCP and to maintain the Estate's ability to continue to fund the Program.

We are also gratified by our ongoing, successful representation of Denmark's national tax authority as it seeks to recover more than $2 billion stolen from it in the largest-ever fraud involving dividend-withholding tax. As described above, that effort has involved prosecuting 184 separate lawsuits and defeating arguments that the "revenue rule" bars our client's efforts at recovery.
