What are some of your proudest achievements from the past year? I'm extremely proud of how we've supported our team during this incredibly challenging time. We did so by emphasizing the importance of connectivity and wellness, strengthening our commitment to DEI, supporting flexible schedules and recognizing the demands of remote work. Some of our innovative programs that highlight this is our "Unplug Time" policy, which allows attorneys to take a week of unplugged time with 40 hours as billable-equivalent credit, and establishing our Racial Justice Fellowships. We've also extended our Caregiver Relief benefit, which offered three months of 80% work at 100% pay for team members who couldn't rely on outside care because of heightened health risks in their families.

There is a clear correlation between self-care and high performance, and we're proud to support our teams through these programs and continue to build a best place to work culture at Orrick. We believe these changes will make a difference—and we're always looking at what else we can do to innovate in this area.

What, if any, obstacles stood in the way of your innovations, and how did you overcome them? It can be difficult to support a large team with changing needs during a challenging time. In designing these programs, our focus is on listening to our teams to understand how we can help them be successful at Orrick, in their family lives and within their communities. We know that is ultimately the key to staying and thriving in a highly demanding service profession like ours. I am extremely fortunate to work with a leadership team that is both incredibly supportive and encouraging of innovative ideas on how to manage, support and develop talent.

What is the best advice for younger attorneys looking to advance their own innovative ideas or visions? Don't be afraid to share your innovative ideas! Young attorneys bring a wonderful new perspective and set of experiences to law firms, and we can greatly benefit from your input. If you're not sure where to start, share your ideas with your mentor or team leaders so they can help you figure out how to move your vision forward.
