U.S. Circuit Judges Jose A. Cabranes and Rosemary S. Pooler, two Democratic appointees of differing ideological leanings, have told the White House that they plan to take senior status, likely shifting the orientation of the court and giving President Joe Biden another opportunity to reshape the Manhattan federal bench.

Cabranes and Pooler, the last active appointees of President Bill Clinton remaining on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, both said in Oct. 6 letters to the president that they plan to change status once their successors are confirmed, the clerk’s office said on Thursday.
